Purpose and Requirements

The purpose of this class is for each student to select a(n) area(s) of concentration in visual art and develop to advanced proficiency in that area by the end of the school year.

Students will be required to enter in at least 3 contests of their choice, in the media of their choice. Students will also be required to complete a school or community project by the end of the year, basically using their talents to help out a cause. Students should leave this class with a strong portfolio in their area(s) of concentration.

Lessons will be linked to either Arts & Communication Standards of Fine Arts Standards depending on the students' area of concentration.

Foundation: Learning Targets

Answer the following in a thorough post of about 3-4 paragraphs in length, about 4-5 sentences a paragraph.

  1. Describe your artistic experiences. What kind of things have you created? What are your favorite and least favorite subjects in art? Why?
  2. What are some of your hobbies? Could you incorporate these into class projects? How?
  3. Which of these following subjects are you most and least interested in pursuing: Interactivity and Flash (animation), Photoshop (digital photography and manipulation), Illustrator (digital illustration), iMovie (digital movies), Final Cut (digital movies), Garage Band (digital music), Drawing, Painting. List the above subjects in order of highest interest to lowest interest.
  4. This class will require a good dose of motivation and self discipline. Are you capable of having either attribute? If not, what will it take for you to be able to tap into those abilities?

50 points: thoughtful and fluid responses with excellent supporting examples and stories.

40 points: good responses, enough examples.

30 points: some mediocre responses, a lot of "i don't knows" without explanations.

0 points: no response.
